Creativity Requires Courage

"Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties." –Erich Fromm Yesterday, at the store I ran into an old friend from many years back. We hugged and shared tidbits of our lives. Her mom approached and my friend offered up introductions, adding, "Chiron's writing books now." Her mom smiled as she gripped my hand, saying, "That's wonderful that you make yourself do that." Laughing, I responded, "And I do make myself do it." It takes courage, you see, to be a writer. Not… Continue

Success is in the Doing--The Power of Choice

“Never give up, never surrender!” ---Commander Peter Taggart (lead character in “Galaxy Quest”) Whenever I’m feeling down, I love to put up my feet and sink my mind into an old favorite movie. The reason is obvious. A good story, whether silly or profound, lifts us out of our ordinary life and into a new perspective. And within each story is a kernel of truth that some reader (or viewer) takes to heart. Perhaps that is the essential ingredient we strive to discover in each of our own sto… Continue

Double Dare—Dreaming and Doing…

Self-reflection (it's not just for breakfast anymore). *smile* "The person who gets the farthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare. The sure-thing boat never gets far from shore." --Dale Carnegie To achieve your greatest goals requires two things. First, you must believe you can reach your destiny. Second, you must take action. Dreaming and Doing are the keys to success. Let's start with dreaming. What distinguishes a daydreamer from an active dreamer? Dreamers… Continue

Want it, Feel it, Breathe it!

"Act as if everything you desire is already here… treat yourself as if you already are what you’d like to become.” –Wayne Dyer. What does it mean to be a success? How is such a phenomenon measured? Here is my definition: To push just a little bit harder, to strive just a little bit longer, and to reach just a little bit farther than you first thought possible. That's it. Every accomplishment seems daunting at first. Tying your shoes seemed impossible when your itsy-bitsy brain… Continue

A Single Word

“You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing that we call "failure" is not the falling down, but the staying down.” —Mary Pickford Being a writer requires many qualities to succeed. Talent, perseverance, passion, persistence, and of course, the ability to learn, grow, and evolve. Yet few focus on an essential ingredient in this engaging slop of characteristics: Courage. Writers must have unwavering courage to face each day. Courage to dare to begin a new stor… Continue

Thanks, Chiron. This is my first time travel romance and a story I love. I've been in the middle of edits for it and a short story this week so have been hiding. LOL!

Ah, yes... there are those people that thrive on things like that. But it's not always a bad thing. Sometimes a grain of wisdom or insight can be gleaned even from those who attempt to undermine us. I'm constantly reminded that we all have a purpose--even people like that. And I'm also a strong believer in "what doesn't kill us makes us stronger." :) I also agree with the quote from David Brinkley in your "You Are Meant to Shine" blog post. It's terribly easy to run and hide when we are hurt or mistreated, but far harder, and more satisfying, to stand your ground and make something positive of the experience.
Thanks for adding me as a friend!
Many blessings,

Thank you for the comment, Chiron.

My novel, "I Remember Tomorrow", is about a psychic trying to hold onto her sanity. In some ways it's a thriller, in others it's a love story. You can find an excerpt (chapter one) at the AuthorsDen website, along with a few other samples of my writing.

Again, thank you for the comment.

Be well,
William
