What Does It Take to Get Published?

I’ve never heard anyone mention talent first. PERSISTENCE is the most common answer I hear. Stubbornness is a word I use. It certainly takes courage to allow others to see your work such as critique partners, editors and agents. After all these are your babies and they are perfect. Through all the rejections, (93 on one book) I still couldn’t quit because every book I submitted to an editor or agent was better than the last. When one was rejected, I started another and believed it would be the… Continue

Non-rev Travel

Hi Everyone, Sorry, I didn’t post a blog entry last week. I was supposed to be in Colorado last week, but after trying for two days I gave up. Many of you know I’m a retired TWA employee, and when American Airlines bought TWA I continued to receive passes to travel on their airline. For those who don’t know what non-rev means, it stands for non-revenue, which is not exactly true any more. When I travel stand-by or non-rev, there have been times when I’ve paid as much as it would have cost me t… Continue

Unclaimed Funds

Unclaimed Funds Have you ever wondered what happens to certificates, dividends or any funds that are not claimed by the owner? Well, I’m here to tell you that these items are turned over to the state treasurer wherever they are. The state cannot do anything with these items until someone shows up to claim them days, months or years later. Sometimes these items are never claimed, and in some cases they keep accruing more money. How did I learn about this phenomenon? I happened to watch NBC one… Continue

Food Pantries

Hi Everyone, Life is getting tough; people are losing their jobs, faced with foreclosures on their homes and repossessed cars. It used to be only the homeless and the poor went to the food pantry for groceries, but now people who used to have homes and good jobs are going there to feed their families. My husband always says it could happen to us any time, and he’s right. What would it take for you or anyone to lose everything? For us who are retired, if social security went bankrupt, the stock… Continue

The Benefits of Small Town Life

Hi Everyone, This past week, I read a collection of four stories under the title, Welcome to Redemption by Donna Marie Rogers and Stacey Joy Netzel. Redemption is a fictional small town in Northeast Wisconsin. Small towns can range from five hundred to fifty thousand people, more or less. I grew up in a small town, and I must admit the stories in this book made me nostalgic for that simple life. Small towns across America are disappearing, but if you’re lucky enough to grow up in one you are i… Continue

Hi Sandy! Thanks for your warm welcome. So far, I've been kind of distracted (trying to get a job with the school district), but soon I will be on here more often, soon.....(I hope, I hope...) Hope to chat with you soon!

Amen, sista. Those greedy, corrupt bastards have been digging into our pockets for their special projects for toooo long!

Have a wonderful weekend. I am about to go do the thing I hate the most...grocery shopping. It is tied with ironing clothes.

No, the stark reality is that I don't handle stress well at all and I have never been able too. My employer tried advancing me once but shortly asked me to please step down. I start to flip out under too much pressure.

I sure would!!! I am working on getting a business degree and I also would like to get a degree in Political Science. I think all the current government should be fired and all new people brought in. It is a big dream, but I like the idea.
