The House of Pendragon II: The Recruit Wins Best Great Lakes Regional Book in Reader Views 2007 Annual Literary Awards

(Austin, Texas) “The House of Pendragon II: The Recruit” by Debra A. Kemp [978-1-59279-699-1, Amber Quill Press, 2007] was selected as the best Great Lakes Regional book of 2007 by Reader Views Annual Literary Awards. Reader Views Annual Literary Awards were established to honor writers who self-published or had their books published by a small press, university press, or independent book publisher.

“Reader Views reviews more than 2,000 books per year from budding authors who have worked hard to achieve their dream of being published,” Reader Views Managing Editor Irene Watson says. “Our Annual Literary Awards recognize the very best of these up-and-coming authors, all talented writers who we know have very promising writing careers ahead of them.”

The Reader Views Annual Literary Awards are granted in 20 fiction and 30 nonfiction categories, as well as 15 specialized, sponsored categories. The entries are judged by Reader Views reviewers, all avid readers with a wide range of experiences, considered experts in the respective fields.

About “The House of Pendragon II: The Recruit”
“The House of Pendragon II: The Recruit”: In the long-anticipated sequel to her original House of Pendragon series, Debra A. Kemp continues the extraordinary story of King Arthur’s daughter, Lin. Lin wants more than the life of weaving and gossip that is expected of her as the princess of Camelot. Rejected and misunderstood by her mother, Queen Gwenhwyfar, Lin turns to her father for acceptance by joining his army. Her fighting spirit meets resistance at every turn. Can Lin prevail as a recruit in the Pendragon’s army? Or will her past return to haunt her?

Debra Kemp deliberately went against this tradition and created Lin, daughter of Guinevere and Arthur. How does this match your perceptions of Guinevere? Of Arthur? 2) To what extent does historical detail matter in the novel? To what extent does Arthurian tradition matter in Recruit? How well does the author balance the two? 3) How do you think Lin has changed or grown since t… Continue

Going through all my notes and ideas for the key events that need to take place merely made the gears in my brain to squeal and eventually grind to a halt. They all seemed to clash against each other, rather than falling into place in a timeline of some sort. Then I realized I was tring to plot three separate novels. I had plots and conflicts strong enough to support… Continue
