Why are we always attracted to people or things we shouldn't have and never satisfied with what we do have? (This is kind of a variation on the attracted to the bad boy syndrome as opposed to the safe good guy, but it applies to things that aren't good for us, either, like junk food, drugs, alcohol, etc.)

I agree with Marianne. I think that God is teaching us that we will never find complete and total utopia here on earth away from him. It seems that anything done in excess is bad for us. Ok, take away our alcoholic beverages and our smokes, but-- ah--not those bad boys...where would romance novels be without them!
I have often pondered this too, and have come to the conclusion each of us have specific lessons to learn and the things we think we want, and the people we think we need are God's way of teaching us we don't need them to make us who we are meant to be. We just think we do. We, in essence, set ourselves up for the "hurt". Junk food is comfort food but we can all find something better to do than stuffing goodies in our mouths to make us feel better. To me, that's what writing is all about. I get the aggression, anger, hurt and desire for revenge out on the pages.
