Hello Everyone

I’m not a hundred per cent, but I felt that I needed to write to you to let you know that I’m still around and that when I wake up in a morning and find that I’m still able to have my cuppa, I’m grateful for another day on this wonderful world.

Well the past month has certainly been eventful for me. First I was informed that my new modernised electric wheelchair will soon be delivered, which is not bad seeing as I’ve only been waiting six months for it.

Next I was informed that I have to go into hospital again as soon as a bed becomes available, which I’ve recently been informed shouldn’t be too long now as I’m on top of the waiting list. Then finally after a lot of stress worrying, waiting, family arrivals, my wife Betty and me decided to go on holiday to Majorca, for a week’s relaxation, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We returned home a week later to find our house on fire!

Fortunately the firemen did a great job and saved ninety per cent of my property. Within four days, around twenty workmen from builders to carpenters and gas contractors visited my home and restored it to its former glory. Now one can hardly tell that there was a fire. Apparently, children had been playing with matches in a nearby den that they had built near my fence and the den caught fire, which in turn set fire to my three jumbo containers that exploded and sent flames soaring into the air onto my roof. At first, neighbours thought I was in the house asleep and they attempted to break in to save me, but my house is like fort knox (which I’m now not sure is a good thing) and no matter how they tried, they couldn’t get in. Fortunately the house was empty, and then a further explosion blew my windows out, so the neighbours were able to get in and confirm I was not at home.

The children were not caught, but the police had unproven suspicions. At least it was not deliberate and no one was hurt. The insurance company were very good and paid out the same day. If I had been in the house at the time, I think that the smoke would have got to me before the flames and I would not be writing this tale now.

The good side is that Betty enjoyed the time shopping and replacing some of the items that were lost as we now have more modern possessions.

Still, my kettle was okay, so I was able to have a much needed cuppa!

Mike

Gee, Mike, what an awful thing to return home from vacation to! Good that you weren't there and no one was hurt and I hope they catch the little brats who did it.

Mike, so glad you weren't home and that you had little damage. Fires are so scary. We had a fire in our shop behind the house in March and the damage was major. Fortunately the house wasn't touched and no one was hurt. My husband is now buying new woodshop tools. Enjoy that cuppa!

How frightening! I'm so glad you were at home when it happened, but what a suspenseful ending to a vacation.

If you write Christian historicals set in 1800s, there's a Yahoo marketing group for you http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CROWNfictionmarketing/ Unfortunately, I don't write that period. The idea of such a group is a good one.
