The Sentence

My first inspirational novel, The Sentence, will be availabe in October from By Grace Publishing. I had considered writing an inspirational for some time, but I kept putting it off because I really like to write mostly sweet contemporaries. Still, the book kept nagging at me, so I finally gave in and wrote it. I hope you enjoy the excerpt.

Thanks for reading!

Interview with Holly Jacobs, Harlequin and Avalon Author

Today, I welcome a very special author to my home, a long-time and valued friend, Holly Jacobs. I've known Hall since before she wrote for Harlequin.

Please ask her questions and leave comments for her.

1) What inspires you?

I could honestly answer that I’ve been inspired by all the fantastic authors I’ve read over the years. That the love of the written word keeps me writing, that the joy of creating stories inspires me to head to the computer each day. All are… Continue

Here We Go Again

Gustav isn't even in the Gulf of Mexico yet and our governor is planning to evacuate the city of New Orleans. If and that is a big IF Gustav comes here it will be late Monday night or Tuesday morning. Why do they feel they have to start evacuating Saturday? It probably won't even be in the Gulf by Saturday. It probably won't hit New Orleans. Why?!!

Yes, the very Saturday that Heather Graham's Writers for New Orleans Workshop will be in full swing. I look forward to this all year. I… Continue

stranger than fiction......?

A long over-due hello to all. Sorry but its been a extremely hot, drawn out summer here in blazing Corfu. Since the beginning of June the temp has hovered somewhere between 36 and 40 degrees and I am sick of it. Oh for some rain! I have been lax of late in the blogging dept and I apologise but now, I am ready with some food for thought.

Most of us, at some point during our illustrous careers as authors and dreammakers, are asked....from where to you conjure up your plots, where do your… Continue

The Path of Persistence

"I handed in a script last year and the studio didn't change one word. The word they didn't change was on page 87." --Steve Martin

There is nothing more eye opening to the Real Business of writing than handing over your manuscript to a professional editor. Or, even worse, entering a contest and having your entry trashed by an anonymous judge. Ouch!

We've all felt it. The sting of rejection. The reason this hurts so very much is because we become attached to our… Continue

Avoidance

Every writer I know at one time or another goes through avoidance. What I mean by that is avoiding your current work-in-progress, commonly know as the WIP. Today was that day for me.

For once my Sunday was quiet. I didn’t have to travel to take care of grandkids, my husband planned a day of watching golf, mostly with his eyes closed; my house was relatively clean, and in order. This would be my last quiet Sunday for weeks. Next week I’ll have a house full, with my brother and his… Continue

Cardinal Sin

If you were born in the 1960's and would like to take a trip down memory lane, my newly released book from The Wild Rose Press is just the ticket.
Remember the mini-skirts, manual typewriters, sour faced old spinsters who were in charge of typing pools and the Vietnam war?

Alos, thank you Rose for giving Cardinal Sin such a great review.
Regards
Margaret Tanner

Wow, What A Surprise!

I got an email the other day that really surprised me. According to the editor I'm working with at By Grace Publishing, they want to publish my book in October of this year which is a lot sooner than I expected. I'm agreeable, so if all goes as planned I'll have The Sentence coming from By Grace in October, and The Best Selling Toy Of The Season coming from MS Fiction in November. How's that for ending the year with a bang?

I thought I'd offer you a blurb for each book just so you'd… Continue

excerpt from new writing

Death threw back her long dark hair and laughed an icy laugh. Her jade eyes met the yellows of the wolf, her lips drawn into a sharp frown. Skool regarded the beauty of Death, of the goddess, Nox, until the chill that gripped his soul made him yowl.

“Is it my role you wish to learn or the fate of the players? Do you fear your own demise, great wolf?”

Skool craned his neck and stared at the river of life, flowing peacefully through Death’s glen. The wolf roared and the minions of Death… Continue

Hiya,

I'm still floating on the ceiling! I just signed a contract with The Wild Rose Press (My publisher for FREAKSVILLE.) for a YA Paranormal Romance short story. It's called My Prom Date's a Vampire. 'The Nemesis Cell' Reviewed

My forthcoming paperback release 'The Nemesis Cell' (Steel Waves Publishing) has just been reviewed by the review body, CK2S Kwips & Kritiques and has received a fantastic 4!/2 Klover rating (out of 5). In it's e-book format 'The Nemesis Cell' was placed 6th in the 2007 Preditors & Editors Readers Award Poll and I am thrilled that it will very soon be made available to a wider reading audience in it's paperback version. The review will soon be available to view on… Continue

Have You Dropped the Baton?

The recent mistakes made by the U.S. Olympic relay teams cause me to wonder just how many times, as writers, we drop the baton.

Writing, as we all know, is a solitary endeavor in the beginning. However, once we contract that first book we become part of a bigger team including: publishers, editors, writing partners, cover designers, and many others who work behind the scenes to facilitate our success. How vigilant are we to make sure we hand them a carefully edited product on… Continue

the world's oddest book promotion

I must state that I did not come up with this idea but at this point?

We're going to promote my last effort as the worse selling book in publishing history. We are going to find which titles truly bombed in the industry and then do an online interview with me and work the promo along the lines of why some books sell and some don't. The other author doing this will examine my book and we'll deal with what went wrong on various levels. I've sunk close to 4000 into this self-published title… Continue
