If Only

Today, to me, was the ultimate summer day. It was 75 degrees, not at all humid, a nice breeze, a few poofy white clouds drifting lazily across the brilliant blue sky.

It’s sad that there’s only one or two of these perfect days a year in this area. And now one of them is almost over. There’ll be another, maybe, but likely not until almost fall. Sigh. I really need to move north where this is how the weather is most of the summer when it’s… Continue

The Road to Aberfeldy

Scottish poppy

What took weeks before the car now but a couple hours along narrow roads that wind through some of the world's most beautiful scenery. I am escorted from the stark and wild isles to Scotland's heartland.

Lochs rest a'plenty in the glacial… Continue

Maybe I Was Bad

I’m out of space to plant anything new in my yard. A real pity considering one of my favorite greenhouses was having its Spring sale this weekend. I was sure they’d have some lovely stuff left. What’s a girl to do?

Simple. Go buy wonderful plants and stick them in someone else’s yard. Cool, right? I got a whole mess of stuff and mixed it all together. No planning. No color scheme. Just cool plants in all shades tossed here, there and… Continue

TGIF

My mind is pretty much blank so I really have nothing to say other than yay, it’s Friday!

I suppose I could ramble a bit about my grandmother’s island that was supposed to one day be mine and how my mom sold it when my grandmother died, I suspect because she knew how much I wanted it. Nah, that will just piss me off and Neeley’s coming back into town to have dinner with me. Yes, I’m spoiled, I admit it. I don’t want to be in a bad mood to… Continue

LAIRD OF THE MIST - iPOD SCENE

The year is 1746. Olivia has traveled back in time to help save her sister, Cat. Olivia is a ditzy, fey young woman who defied her grandda's explicit order not to bring modern technology back in time with her. Ian, Carrick's brother who is in love with Olivia, makes a discovery. Thank you to Carrie Underwood!

Olivia sat in the garden, one iPod earbud tucked discreetly in her ear. She had placed it strategically under her hair, bushy from the lack of conditioner in this time.… Continue

An Unfortunate Day

Yesterday was one of those horrible unfortunate days that perhaps hit us all from time to time. First of all, I suffered a computer crash, and though I got most everything back again, my e-mail program has been inoperable since then and I have to wait until someone comes out to the house to see if I can get it back. If not, I'll lose a whole load of important emails, attachments, and contacts.

Then, my father-in-law, who was on a visit to our home, suffered a small stroke while he… Continue

Chaos

The book, not me. Well, perhaps me too but today let's stick with the book. Chaos is the second in my Cosmic Connections series. Yesterday, I was given the release date. September 30. From Ellora's Cave. Book cover to follow.

Blurb

When Shane McKade wakes up, trapped in bed, handcuffed to his brand new cousin-in-law, all he’s interesting in is getting them free so they can indulge in more mind-blowing sex. The woman aggravates him… Continue

7 Reasons Why A Novel's Beginning Is So Critical

I recently had the honor of being named as a finalist in the ACFW Genesis contest, and had two days in which to make changes to my entry to resumbit for the finals.

That was a tense two days, as I agonized over every word, every sentence and every paragraph (and for that matter--every comma). My entry consisted of a one-page, single-spaced synopsis and the first fifteen pages of my manuscript.

The whole process underscored for me the importance of the first few pages of… Continue

My Yesterday

But first, my Penguins are in the Stanley Cup playoffs! Not sure who they’ll be playing yet, either Chicago or Detroit. Those two teams haven’t finished their series so we’ll have to wait and see. Lets go Pens!

Yesterday was so busy. It started off with Howie going to the car doc. He had a broken window gizmo. Last week, when I put it up one day, it went snap, crackle, crunch and quit working. It sounded like the window broke inside the door… Continue

LAIRD OF THE MIST - EXCERPT

"What in heaven's name is he still doing here?" Cat stood rigidly in the deck's doorway, outraged at the sight of her grandfather enjoying what appeared to be an amiable breakfast with Carrick. "What the hell is going on here?"

"Now, Caitriona." her grandfather began to rise from his chair. "Just calm yerself, lass. That is no way to speak about our guest."

"Our guest?" Cat snapped with a backward step. "Guest! You must be joking! And I suppose you fixed him breakfast,… Continue
