I saw the 'Illuminating the Word, the Saint John's Bible' exhibit at the Mobile Museum of Art. It is a spectacular creation, hand illustrated and calligraphed by Donald Jackson and many scribes, artists and theologians. I've blogged about the exhibit and its history at my blog, http://deborahpanger.blogspot.com/
Come check it out.

From PC’s to laptops, and now there’s mini’s. Just when you think it can’t get any more convenient for writers, technology takes another step forward. A lot of my writing acquaintances are really excited about the new personal mini-notebooks, or net-books, that fit into their palms. Now available for just few hundred dollars, these mini’s boast document programs and keyboards small enough to make them usable at coffee shops and on the go. Maybe I’m hard-headed, but I’ve gotten so used to my…

Hmm, let’s see. Since I was last here for real I’ve done a bunch of stuff.
Riley and I had a night out with Eva and the Little One. An adventure with the girls is always fun. Dinner and then Oliver. It was well done but not likely to become one of my favorite shows. I did love the villain. Big surprise, right? The guy portraying him had the most incredible voice. Mm, went straight through me.
I did my edits for Hot Rush so soon…

This is why women should not take men shopping against their will.
After I retired, my wife insisted that I accompany her on her trips to Wal-Mart. Unfortunately, like most men, I found shopping boring and preferred to get in and get out. Equally unfortunately, my wife is like most women - she loved to browse. Yesterday my dear wife received the following letter from the local Wal-Mart:
Dear Mrs. Samsel,
Over the past…

Good News!
If any authors here have video trailers for your books there is a new,
FREE, advertising venue!
I just received the following email the other day (
See below). At first they didn't have a category (
or "channel" as they call it) for
books. So I wrote to them requesting that they add a "Books" channel and Tyler (
one of the site's proprietors) kindly jumped on the idea and made it happen. I think the…

In Birmingham, Alabama yesterday, a funeral director was arrested and charged with felony abuse of a corpse. There was a woman who died back in November of 2007. Apparently her family wanted her cremated however they failed to pay the tab.
After storing the body for over a year the owner of the funeral home must have decided it was in the way. For some reason the man in question stuck it in a hearse registered to him, drove it 60 miles to a…

There are times when life is terribly hectic, and now is one of them. I still have 4 edits waiting (think 4 impatient, irritated editors) plus am panicking because I have 3 new books in progress, but in the early stages for 2 and only halfway on the 3rd. No new work to sub out. I have to get at least 2 more books started, and they should probably for Melody. Romance, in other words. The others are all in straight sci-fi/fantasy/horror. Last year, I worked on 5 books, and managed it quite…

Ummm, what an understatement.
I sent a query to a well known e-publisher on January 6 this year. Just a three paragraph summary and chapter one. Pretty much a normal query. Nothing spectacular. I waited to see if they wanted to read the rest of the manuscript, hoping they would so I'd have a chance at a contract.
Well, hopes can be fulfilled.
I received an email from the submissions editor informing me she was sending in a contract request for the book. Can I…
