essay on the writing of my last title

I would have to admit that my road to the publication of The Shaman and the Rose was anything but average. The framework of the novel came about from two self-published titles where I explored the depths of Dante’s Inferno. Those first two books were a valuable learning experience. The most important lesson that I was taught was that as an author I had a great deal to learn about publishing and writing. I discovered that working with an editor can be a godsend to any writer. My editor opened my… Continue

my beloved

It was a dark and stormy night and hunger gripped my soul like a ravenous dog. Sounds drifted by from the darkened town below; noises of discordant jazz and decadence. I viewed the dimming light from my perch on the hill crest. Slowly I descended across the wet grass, down the embankment and toward what waited on deserted streets.
I resisted the ghost of lust, the spirit of my starvation for the sake of my damned soul but no longer for the hunger was upon me as strongly as any demon or beast. Mo… Continue

excerpt from new writing

Death threw back her long dark hair and laughed an icy laugh. Her jade eyes met the yellows of the wolf, her lips drawn into a sharp frown. Skool regarded the beauty of Death, of the goddess, Nox, until the chill that gripped his soul made him yowl.
“Is it my role you wish to learn or the fate of the players? Do you fear your own demise, great wolf?”
Skool craned his neck and stared at the river of life, flowing peacefully through Death’s glen. The wolf roared and the minions of Death spun brief… Continue

the world's oddest book promotion

I must state that I did not come up with this idea but at this point?
We're going to promote my last effort as the worse selling book in publishing history. We are going to find which titles truly bombed in the industry and then do an online interview with me and work the promo along the lines of why some books sell and some don't. The other author doing this will examine my book and we'll deal with what went wrong on various levels. I've sunk close to 4000 into this self-published title with ma… Continue

an angel from gehenna

an angel from gehenna
laid shivering by my feet
blonde and young
breathing frost
I pulled her to me
gave her the last of my warmth
and we laid there, seemingly forever
blanketed by one another
blessed by eternity

We told the keeper of our plight
and he set us upon a bus, on earth
I carried my wares and a deep love for this angel
But angels from Gehenna never last
and she told me that she had to leave for Europe
I remember weeping at her news
pleading with her to stay

But angels from Gehenna… Continue

Hi Elliott,

I know exactly what you're going through. Every time I send something in, I become a zombie. Can't concentrate on anything else. I'm getting better with dealing with the wait but it's still hard.

Hope you received the great acceptance letter!

Hugs,
Judith

Where did 2008 go? I guess when you’re busy time really does fly because mine has certainly taken wing.

WRDF launched in February of 2008 and its membership has grown steadily. I hope that means we are doing something right for our members.

We have some fabulously talented writers among us. I would encourage you to take a little time to visit a couple new pages each week. The photos, videos, blurbs, excerpts, bios, blogs, graphics, and I could go on and on, are super fun and so interesting. No one has an excuse to be bored on this site with so much to read and see.

I hope you’ve kept up with WRDF’S newest features. All are great promotional opportunities for writers and great fun for our readers.

The Bookmark giveaway page
(BOOKMARK TAB)
The Free reads page (FREE READS TAB).
Bingo Mania (Main Page)
Editor Chats (WRDF Calendar)
Trendsetter Blogs (Advertising page – sub-menu of Main/Map Tab)

Our book discussion club, LOST IN A GOOD BOOK, is going strong. We’ve had good participation and if you haven’t kept up with some of our adventurous discussion comments, you’ve missed the action.

We’ve also launched a new online newsletter, WRDF Online. Be sure to open and read your copy when it comes. You never know what you might be missing.

Lastly, you’ll notice a new WRDFCalendar Tab on your page. What a nice way to keep all our members notified of current and up-coming events. You’ll notice that Fridays are Guest blog days at Between the Lines. Why not take a moment, check the calendar, and reserve a couple of spots for yourself during 2009. You can request your dates at: promo@lyndacoker.com

Thank you for spending time with us. Stay safe and well,
Lynda

I know where you're coming from. I had a novel with a publishing company for 18 months and when the contract ended, I pulled it. I was blessed to sub it to another publisher who took it and now I'm waiting for my edits. Hopefully, it'll be out this Spring. Gave me the strength to carry on.

I fully understand that, Elliott. It can be very very frustrating. Especially with being rejected over and over. I've been there too. I haven't reached that point yet though so I'm still plugging away!

If you write Christian historicals set in 1800s, there's a Yahoo marketing group for you http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CROWNfictionmarketing/ Unfortunately, I don't write that period. The idea of such a group is a good one.
