I usually don't even go into bookstores. I buy on Amazon.I'd say I go into Barnes & Nobel twice a year, if that. I will go into a small, mom and pop bookstore when on vacation if I see one.Continue

Happy Holidays!

You may not know me or my work but I am the author of six critically acclaimed, award winning novels and I have been nominated twice for the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction. On Jan 9th 2010 my debut novel SUGAR will celebrate it’s 10th anniversary and I hope you will buy a copy or to help commemorate this milestone. And yes, Kindle purchases count!

Praise for the novels of Bernice L. McFadden:

"Searing and expertly imagined." - Toni Morrison

“Bernice L. McFadden is a master storyteller.” Adriana Trigiana

"Vivid." - The New York Times

"Eloquent..." (McFadden) is a talent worth watching." - The Washington Post

No I haven't read Anna Karenina, and I should have. I was in an experimental reading program in HS. I was allowed to read anything I wanted. I met w/a mentor once a month and explained my choices. She didn't judge, just listened. The only thing was I had to read a certain amount of books per month, which I surpassed. I read everything from sappy romances to War & Peace, my choice. I guess that's what they wanted to know, what a kid would pick.

Hi Nike,
I must say you are very fortunate to have been exposed to great literature in high school...have your read Anna Karenina?
At 12:55am on December 16, 2009, Connie Chastain said…
Hi Nike, thanks for the welcome. I have to tell ya, I enjoyed publishing my book almost as much as writing it; that is, the mechanics of it -- designing and creating the covers, interior design, typesetting (choosing the font, size, etc.) Of course, self-publishing involves more than that, primarily promotion and marketing. I'm just now learning about that. Those are things I enjoy much less than actual production; but as I understand it, I'd have to do a lot of that on my own if my book had been conventionally published.

We'll see, I guess. My second novel, Storm Surge (romantic suspense) is almost finished and I'm going to go the submissions route with it. If it finds a publisher (I'll submit to e-pubs) I'll be in for a new learning experience!

Thanks again for the welcome.
