JUNE'S BOOK DISCUSSION INTRODUCTION

Welcome back to Lost in a Good Book at Writers and Readers of Distinctive Fiction.

The month of May seemed to slip right into June without a minute to spare. My family celebrated college and high school graduations-a lot of them.  I now have kids to call on, if I ever have the need, with careers as probation officer, graphic designer, electrician and soon, if I decide to drive a semi-tractor to work, a diesel mechanic.  If you count the son-in-laws, I’ll have another electrician this month and a maintenance tech to clean up any mess I make!  With all the miles I traveled for ceremonies and the layers and layers of sugar-incrusted cake I ate, I’m anxious to slip into my pile of To-Be-Read and relax under the sun on my backyard deck.

This month is a special treat with our June Lost in a Good Book Session.  We’ve got three great summer reads to discuss.  Sister authors writing as K.M. Daughters bring us a murder-mystery with their novel Beyond the Code of Conduct.  Cowgirl Dreams by Heidi M. Thomas is based on the life of her grandmother, a real Montana cowgirl in the year 1920 and Lillian Caudwell shares The Golden Treasure, from The Anna Mae Mysteries, her Paranormal Mystery involving the search for lost riches.  If you’re looking for a summer escape that doesn’t have the high costs of a vacation to the Bahamas, all of these selections fit the bill.  So grab your sunscreen and iced tea, get comfy on your lounge chair and join us for our June discussion at Lost in a Good Book at WRDF!

June's Discussion will run from the 21st - 30th.  Get your selections, enjoy the reads, and be ready to join us. We are interested in your opinions, observations, and questions.

If you like your Texan's tall, hardboiled on the outside and sweet as Cotton Candy on the inside, Corey Donovan is your man.

BLURB:

Corey Donovan has just spent twelve years in a Texas prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Now he’s a man bent on getting a little payback. And who better to start with than the recently widowed Mrs. Tiffany Covington?

Tiffany is both thrilled and afraid when she discovers Corey has returned to the small West Texas town of Wayback. She’s ready to repay old debts…question is…will Corey accept her currency of exchange?

Excerpt

He pushed through the curtains leading to the rear of the plywood platform, loosely called a stage, and picked up his guitar. Telli was giving him an intro. It wasn’t much of one, just “Here’s Corey.” He sauntered forward with the confidence that familiar places gave a man, rested his booted foot on a low stool, and adjusted his guitar. He always took a moment before his first set to look over the audience, see what kind of crowd he was playing to.

Adrenaline revved his heartbeat to maximum, and the tightness in his throat threatened to choke him. Tiffany Covington sat at the center table with a young boy and two other couples. By her horrified expression, he was sure she recognized him.

She had changed some. Her blonde hair was shorter and a little darker, more honey colored. He used to tease her about having hair the perfect shade of sun-glare. From what he could see, she had filled out a little in all the right places, though one thing had stayed the same. From across a room, her baby-blues could still twist a man’s gut. And as he knew all too well, at close quarters they could claim his soul.

He did the only thing he could. Standing on the stage, holding a bright red guitar, he sang straight into her eyes. His heart, the small part he still owned, ached with recognition. As he sang the lyrics of love gone bad, a truth he’d buried for over a decade rose upward like a bull rider heaved into the air. At eighteen, he’d foolishly given away his heart, and the woman at his feet still owned it.

“I’m nothing without you, come make me whole again.” The last words of the song coursed through his blood like 101 Proof Wild Turkey. As he played the final chords, he cursed the girl, his own weakness, and Wayback, Texas—where it all began.

I write fiction, but romance is a long way from fiction, real or not. Last night I had a dream that I was visiting my friend Ron in Mexico and on the way, the bus was stopped by bandits. They forced all the prisoners off the bus and chained them together while they rummaged the bus. The next person in line to me was a very nice, young lady dressed in the cloth of her religious order. She was petite and deft and managed to get her right hand free. Since the two of us were chained last, we were free, but yet still together by the last remaining chain which she could not wrest her small wrist free. Needless to say, we escaped into the jungle. I love my dreams too.

Hi Lynda

Wanted to ask for some help. But let me first give you a gist of what we do or are doing. :)

We have created a free online book marketing technology for authors - BookBuzzr. (the idea was from an author :) )

BookBuzzr is a page-flipping application that is more suited for marketing books online. BookBuzzr comes with the built-in ability to share book-extracts on over 60 social networking and bookmarking sites such as Facebook, Orkut, MySpace, Digg, Delicious etc.

We are in beta right now and arer gearing up for a new release however we'd like to tell authors about our tool so they can try it and give us feedback for the new release.

We'd love it if you'd take a look at our tool and share your thoughts. Also if you think its a good idea, I'd like authors and readers on WRDF to be the first to test it.

Do let me know what you think... freya@bookbuzzr.com
