Avoidance

Posted on August 25, 2008 at 3:00am 3 Comments

Every writer I know at one time or another goes through avoidance. What I mean by that is avoiding your current work-in-progress, commonly know as the WIP. Today was that day for me.

For once my Sunday was quiet. I didn’t have to travel to take care of grandkids, my husband planned a day of watching golf, mostly with his eyes closed; my house was relatively clean, and in order. This would be my last quiet Sunday for weeks. Next week I’ll have a house full, with my brother and his… Continue

The Baddie

I have a dilemma in my story. My critique partners love my bad guy. They love him more then the hero. What I was hoping for they’d find him intense, and unpredictable. I wanted them to fear for my heroine, if she dare get to close. Instead, they find him deep, dark, damaged, and a little sympathetic, with a very interesting background, more interesting then my hero. And not only get a little squeamish when my heroine does get to close, but at… Continue

The Writer, weight and exercise

Posted on April 30, 2008 at 1:25pm 2 Comments

Writing is a solitary condition. We not only lock ourselves up in our room to write in peace. We lock the world out to create. This maybe everyday, or every other day, but it does require us to sit on one place for hours on end, without moving or at least getting our heart rate up. Unless of course an e-mail arrives from an agent and their requesting a full, and the WIP isn’t complete. Then calories burn out of sheer panic.

During long periods of writing stomach muscles relax, we don’t eat… Continue

Where did 2008 go? I guess when you’re busy time really does fly because mine has certainly taken wing.

WRDF launched in February of 2008 and its membership has grown steadily. I hope that means we are doing something right for our members.

We have some fabulously talented writers among us. I would encourage you to take a little time to visit a couple new pages each week. The photos, videos, blurbs, excerpts, bios, blogs, graphics, and I could go on and on, are super fun and so interesting. No one has an excuse to be bored on this site with so much to read and see.

I hope you’ve kept up with WRDF’S newest features. All are great promotional opportunities for writers and great fun for our readers.

The Tipping Point Workshops (TTP WORKSHOP TAB),
The Contest announcement page (CONTEST TAB)
The Bookmark giveaway page (BOOKMARK TAB)
The Free reads page (FREE READS TAB).

Our book discussion club, LOST IN A GOOD BOOK, is going strong. We’ve had good participation and if you haven’t kept up with some of our adventurous discussion comments, you’ve missed the action.

We’ve also launched a new online newsletter, WRDF Online. Be sure to open and read your copy when it comes. You never know what you might be missing.

Lastly, you’ll notice a new WRDFCalendar Tab on your page. What a nice way to keep all our members notified of current and up-coming events. You’ll notice that Fridays are Guest blog days at Between the Lines. Why not take a moment, check the calendar, and reserve a couple of spots for yourself during 2009. You can request your dates at: promo@lyndacoker.com

Thank you for spending time with us. Stay safe and well,
Lynda
