I just dropped in to update my header. An obsession of mine, recreating the "look" of a site feels almost like writing a new story or book.

In this particular header, I am honoring an old and favorite tale..."The Wizard of Oz," and these Madame Alexander images are representative of that tale.

Another obsession of mine...collecting fairytale images! I have a blog dedicated to some of my collections—LAUREL-RAIN SNOW'S COLLECTIONS.

Welcome Laurel-Rain,

yourself at home. And when you get a free moment, hopefully before you upload too much content, please read the information entitled, NEW MEMBERS PLEASE READ, for important content guidelines. You'll find it listed under the Member's Tab. Just a little necessary business to get out of the way, then I encourage you to explore and enjoy the site.

Also, check out our official blog and review site, Between the Lines and our new book club, LOST..In A Good Book. All of these sites can be reached through their quick-link banner on our Main Page or on the right-hand column of your own page.

Thanks,
Lynda

Profile Information

Are you a writer, reader, or other industry professional
I am both a writer and an avid reader. I spent more than thirty years as a social worker until my retirement; at that point, I turned to an old love -- writing -- and have fictionalized many of those experiences in my five novels and numerous short stories.
If a writer, are you published, pre-pubbed, or self-published?
I have five novels published with BookSurge, an Amazon.com subsidiary -- a self-published company.
As a writer, what type of stories do you Write or Read?
I love to write about what I know -- dysfunctional families; victims of child abuse; relationships; romance; and a little bit of mystery and suspense.
As a reader, what is your favorite genre, writer?
I love to read literary fiction, but also really enjoy a good thriller; I like romance and also books about family relationships; I enjoy contemporary works, but also the occasional historical work; and I especially just enjoy browsing and picking up whatever appeals to me in that moment.
How did you come to know about WRDF?
A friend from another site gave me a link, and I did some browsing and exploring.
What is your first impression of our site?
I like the fact that this site seems to be connected to some other sites to which I belong. Other than that -- so far, I'm still exploring.
Do you have a website you'd like to post?

Excerpt V - "Irreversible Choices" - Beyond the Summer of Foolish Choices

When the “For Sale” sign went up on the front lawn, Carly half-expected some kind of reaction from the neighbors – those former cohorts and gourmet book club participants – but also hoped that none of them responded to it at all. Sometimes she longed for the anonymity of a big city, where the neighbors kept to themselves and noticed nothing outside their immediate home and yard. Maybe this “non-reaction” wouldn’t have seemed so odd if the neighbors hadn’t been so “in their face” all through the… Continue

Excerpt IV - "Irreversible Choices" - The inescapable aftermath...

Finally deciding to confront the issue, she interrupted him as he sat there ponderously checking off incorrect responses on the page before him. “David, we should talk.” As soon as the words left her lips, she wished she could bite them back. His glance withered her with its ferocity. Now where did that come from?

“Are you sure you want to get into this now?”

But he had paused and looked up at her. Was that a good sign? She continued: “When else are we going to have the time – or be alone – so… Continue

Excerpt III - "Irreversible Choices" - Ramifications continue to unfold...

Afterwards, Carly wouldn’t have been able to recall a single thing about the food or the book they’d discussed, or anything at all. She was going through the motions. Glancing around, she’d noticed nothing unusual about anyone else’s behavior, once they’d gotten through the first few minutes. Maybe she was imagining the whole thing. Could she have dreamed it, or fantasized it? She almost burst into laughter, but then restrained herself.

She felt on the verge of hysteria, teetering on a ledge.… Continue

Excerpt II - "Irreversible Choices" - A Novel - During a summer in the 1970s, irreversible choices are made...

By the time they began reviewing their book choice, thoroughly ensconced in the family room, Carly was feeling no pain. In fact, she was wondering why she hadn’t noticed before how wonderfully calming lots of drinks could be in social situations.

At one point, though, as if from outside her body, she heard her laughter sounding a bit too jovial, maybe even raucous. Or perhaps it was David’s glance in her direction one time too often that tipped her off. She set down the wine glass abruptly and… Continue

Irreversible Choices - An Excerpt

Carly Bennett Donovan drove through commuter traffic to her office downtown. Her last glance in the full-length mirror in her bathroom had reassured her that she looked as if she could face the day. Today would be another in a series of conflict-driven meetings with her clients, those she had served for the past ten years as a court mediator. Her previous career as a social worker had left her feeling frustrated and powerless, leading her to explore other options. She still wondered if that had… Continue
