I agree. Our imaginations are far more adept at scaring us than anything we can see on the big screen by way of special FX. Personally, I love a good supernatural scare. I'm not afraid of the dark, but things that can hide in the dark can be scary.…

While the last post to this thread was from nearly two months ago, I wanted to add a little something. First and foremost I wanted to pose the question: What scares you? I think the answer to that question goes a long way toward pin pointing movie…

See now Drag Me To Hell was by Sam Raimi--a horror director (amongst other genres), but his movies tend to over the top almost spoofs (Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness). Startling at times, but mostly just for entertainment purposes. If I w…

I also liked "The Village". I really liked "Mirrors" too. Really sad here in Wangaratta. I was looking forward to seeing "Orphan" and asked the cinema manager when it will be coming here. He said they're not getting it because nobody comes to the s…

I agree. It seems "scary" movies, any more, are just outings in gore and violence. Most are predictable, lack plot and character development, and are geared toward an audience who either doesn't want to or is unable to think. The Village would be a…

Whatever happened to the truly scary movie? I watched "Drag Me To Hell" and it did nothing for me. Maybe it's just me, but I found it very B-Grade and cliched. Plenty of gore and action but nothing truly spooky or supernaturally scary. What happen…

Yes... that could be true. Some kind of predator... Oh, that's been done too. I think I'll just start writing it and see where it goes. Sometimes these things develop a life of their own and go in unexpected directions. I'll let you know what happen…

We...ll. If you put them on another planet, you don't have to use a werewolf. It could be a freaky extraterrestrial cannibal picking them off one by one. =)

AUGUST

August. Well... how about that! Suddenly the year is more than half over.

What was I saying about everything settling down so I'd have time for my writing?

Yeah, like that really happened!

Never mind, I'm working on it. I'm restructuring my days so I can have a few afternoons free for writing. Plan A. Somehow I think I've heard that before. I mean it. I'm trying real hard to sneak a few moments here and there for my own writing.

So far I've managed to write the odd paragraph or two on Mark o… Continue

Yes, it's true! In August I'll be celebrating reaching that wonderful milestone of turning 50 years old.

And I don't mind one bit. Fifty is a glorious age. It's a writing age, an age of experience and enthusiasm... and I don't feel a day over 20 [and I don't act it, either - so I've been told]!

To celebrate my "coming of age" I'm going to be running a month-long competition for writers.

I'm offering:

Same Old Same Old, or Not?

I've been hatching a new idea lately. That's annoying when I don't have time to write just now. It's the end of the financial year and I'm right in the middle of tax and GST. All things financial will take all my spare computer time up for the next couple of weeks. Very boring and very frustrating.

But...there's this story swirling around inside my head. Short story, most likely. Only vague ideas at the moment... sci/fi, hikers on a different planet, scientists probably, astronomers I'm thinkin… Continue

The Rain, The Cows & Other Things

It's not getting any less busy around here. In fact, I think it might even be busier than before.

How does that work? I thought things would settle down and be a bit less manic after the play finished. But no... there's still a steady string of visitors coming and going, and there's still a heap more paintings to do for my exhibition. Quieter after the play?

Not so.

These days the only writing time I'm getting is when I go down to the Idyl Book Cafe to do my Gypsy Stone Readings. Between read… Continue
